Enter the world of Fensalir

The origins of Fensalir

In Norse mythology Fensalir is the home of the Goddess of love and fate, Frigg, wife of Odin. The most powerful Goddess, she is also said to have posessed the power of prophesy and clairvoiance.

Fensalir – Fen meaning bog/mire/wetland, salir meaning hall.

Bogs were believed to be portals to other worlds.

In my books, the Gods travel between worlds. They consider themselves explorers, and thrive off the adoration and worship they receive in the worlds they inhabit.

Fensalir is one such world; inhabited by Nymphs, Fae and Shifters. Colonized by the Goddess Frigg, the peoples of Fensalir turn their backs on old religions and traditions to worship and be ruled by her and her kin. But when the Gods decide to abandon them for the human world, Fensalir is thrown into conflict and chaos.

Premise for the books «the Curse of Fensalir» and «the Kings of Fensalir»

After the Gods abandon Fensalir, the world is divided into two main courts, the Seelie and the Unseelie, locked in constant conflict. During one such conflict the powerful Dragon-shifters choose to join the Seelie Court and support its king.

The support of the Dragon-shifters leaves little chance of victory for the Unseelie. And in his greed for power the Unseelie king evokes a curse. A curse to bind the Dragon-shifters to their human form, unable to transform or use their magic.

He offers the Dragon-shifters a cure in exchange for their loyalty, but they still refuse. Falling into madness, The Unseelie king begins killing the cursed Dragon-shifters, trying to force their compliance. They turn to the Seelie king for help, and thus begins «the Great War».

The world of Fensalir burns, and the peoples are decimated.

Hoping to stop the war by their absence, the Dragon-shifters flee to the human world.

Fast forward nearly two thousand years, we meet Ayra. A Dragon-shifter who struggles to find her place in the human world. When she meets a mysterious woman who offers her a chance to free the dragon inside, she jumps on the opportunity.

But nothing is ever as easy as you are led to believe…

Status – The Curse of Fensalir

Status per 07.01.2024 – The book is about 80-90% ready for alpha-readers. Will most likely be taking alpha readers in end of February/beginning of March.

The Curse of Fensalir is a first person telling from Ayras point of view.

To be noted: even though this story contains elements of magic and otherworldly creatures, these elements are important but not the main element of the story. The plot is mainly centred around the characters and their personalities more than their «race» or abilities.

The book is planned as a stand-alone.

Status – The Kings of Fensalir

TBA

The Kings of Fensalir happens prior and parallel to The Curse of Fensalir. As the first book is written from a first person pow, there are many things that happen behind the scenes that I felt could not be sufficiently detailed in the book without launching into endless monologues. But the story in the Curse of Fensalir greatly impacts many of the main and side characters, and their version of the story will be told here.

The book will be aimed at those who have read the first book and want the «behind the scenes».
