Overflow of ideas?

Overflow of ideas?

I think most people have heard about writers’ block. But is there also such a thing as being overwhelmed by the flood of ideas rushing through your mind?

I had a very productive Christmas. Two weeks of holiday, and despite all family-related obligations and events, I really got into the flow of writing. Scene after scene flew from my fingers to the keyboard and onto the pages.

Back to my daily life, i normally do most of my writing on the weekends, seeing as my nine-to-five requires my attention on the other days of the week. So, I was looking forward to another productive day yesterday, but ended up watching Netflix instead.

Why? Because every time I tried to write one chapter, my brain kept pushing ideas for things that could happen or conversations to be had in other chapters. My mind kept wandering all over the place, and it just got so distracting that I wasn’t really getting anything done anyway.

My mind had gone into overdrive, and I needed a break.

Has this ever happened to you?

And if it does, what is your preferred method for keeping track of the thoughts that pop up? I keep pushing them aside, to keep focus on the current chapter, thinking i will remember later if it’s important. But what if i don’t, and it was important?
